Cute Digital Art Tutorial

 


 I found an interesting article about digital drawing tutorial from famous illustrator, Eku Uekura. She was selected for designing of special Xylitol Gum packet for XYLITOL 20th PROJECT(commemorate the 20th Xylitol gum). She also allowing to be interviewed during that time. She also shows on the process to make a kawaii illustration with this skill: sparkling transparency and pop hues from the beginning to the end. I'll only stated the process stages because the images and explanation already stated in the link here;

1. Costume design - planning the costume, pose, facial, color and effect.
2. Initial draft - draw the rough draft.
3. Colored draft - colored the  rough draft and see whether it fits.
4. Lineart - choose selected brush to draw the line.
5. Base color #1 - start with base color close to skin color.
6. Base color #2 - recreate skin texture.
7. Coloring #1 - add more bright color and gradient.
8. Coloring #2 - add more color for recreate the stereoscopic effect.
9. Shading - Shading the character.
10. Highlights - add highlights can change the texture.
11. Background and finishing - repeat coloring process on the background character.

I personally like her artwork since usually her artwork is cute and refreshing. This illustration looks compact to me, but it does not look disturbing to watch at all. Take a look at her colored draft and finished illustration.

Eye Coloring Tutorial

One of the part that is important in a character is a pair of eyes. Even I had a hard time coloring it. Every people has their own style of coloring the character's eye. Some of them are willing to share their process of coloring character's eye. In this article , you can find some artist share their one-page tutorial on drawing and coloring eyes, even though mostly the tutorial is in Japanese. Recently I found my friend shared something interesting; it is about a tutorial of illustration under water. I immediately love the tutorial made by the Indonesian artist, even though he/she said that the tutorial was a heavy reference on other artist.
